Louisa Young was born in London and educated at a state school, a girls’ public school, a boys’ public school, and Trinity College, Cambridge. She has been a freelance journalist writing in women’s magazines, motorcycle magazines and national newspapers, and has also worked as a busker, a motorcycle messenger, a barmaid, a waitress, a singer, and a tea-lady. Her first book, A GREAT TASK OF HAPPINESS: THE LIFE OF KATHLEEN SCOTT (1995), was a biography of her great-grandmother, the widow of Scott of the Antarctic. Her trilogy of novels featuring Evangeline Gower, single mother and former biker and belly-dancer (BABY LOVE, DESIRING CAIRO and TREE OF PEARLS) received rapturous reviews. Louisa's THE BOOK OF THE HEART, an inquiry into the human heart in all its aspects, was published by Flamingo in 2002. She lives in London with her daughter, and writes regularly for The Guardian and The Sunday Times.

Louisa's first novel for adults in nearly ten years, MY DEAR, I WANTED TO TELL YOU, has aroused enormous interest around the world, and was published in the spring of 2011 to superb reviews. It was shortlisted for the Costa Novel of the Year Award, was a Richard & Judy Selection, a Waterstone's Book Club Selection, and Book at Bedtime on Radio 4.

In 2003 Louisa and her daughter Isabel embarked on a writing career together, under the pseudonym of Zizou Corder. LIONBOY, the first in a fantasy trilogy for children, was published around the world, and has been a bestseller in several countries, including the US, where it reached the top ten of the New York Times list. Louisa has since written two more books under the Zizou Corder pseudonym, LEE RAVEN, BOY THIEF and HALO. (See separate author entry for Zizou Corder).
